Paul Brooks


                Paul has more than 25 years of professional IT and Software Development experience, making him a broad and deep resource in any technical setting.  His greatest strengths lie in problem solving, communicating, invention, and promoting ideas.  He is able to pick up new skills quickly, and manage challenges very effectively.  Paul has contributed in numerous verticals – banking, wholesaling and retail, insurance, and manufacturing, as well as in general business in the software industry, computer consultancy, and in government.

                Paul’s career spans working with the largest mainframe computer networks, down to individual desktop computer support.  He specializes in systems and network administration.  He has experience in all phases of architecting, integrating, and supporting systems’ hardware, software, infrastructure, and virtualization.  Paul is also an excellent programmer, with extensive experience in a number of programming and scripting languages.


Principal Systems Analyst, Arbortext/PTC, Inc., 3767 Ranchero Dr, Ann Arbor, MI.  6/1996 – 9/2014.  Oversight level system and network administration for a mid-sized software developer.  Performed in all aspects of specification, configuration, deployment, project management, administration, support, and security for several flavors of Unix and MS Windows, and associated LAN/WAN, as corporation grew from 80 to 250 employees, and to $40M in revenue.

Unix Systems Administrator, Waldenbooks, Inc., 100 Phoenix Dr, Ann Arbor, MI.  7/1995 – 6/1996.  Performed system, network, and database administration for local and remote HP/9000 servers running Informix-Online DBMS, in support of Informix-4GL warehousing applications.

Computer Systems Specialist, Library of Michigan, 717 W Allegan St, Lansing, MI.  9/1992 – 6/1995.  System and network administration on a variety of platforms, including an IBM 9221 running VSE/ESA, an IBM RS/6000 which provided TCP/IP - Internet services, and various PC and Macintosh-based applications, utilities, and networks.  Some work on a DEC/VAX 400.

Software Engineer, Computer Task Group, Inc., 3040 Charlevoix Dr SE, Ste 210, Grand Rapids, MI.  10/1990 – 9/1992.  System and program analysis, design, coding, and modifications in contracted positions.  Work was done in large installations, with systems written in a variety of languages and environments, on a “by project” basis.

Programmer Analyst, NWL Control Systems, Inc., 2220 Palmer St, Kalamazoo, MI. 4/1989 – 10/1990.  For a major manufacturer of aircraft components, was responsible for programming and user support related to M&D FA:Millennium.

System Engineering Representative, Computer Task Group, Inc., 3040 Charlevoix Dr SE, Suite 210, Grand Rapids, MI.  7/1988 – 4/1989.  Responsibilities similar to those described above, under the heading “Software Engineer”.

Systems Programmer, Kalamazoo Valley Intermediate School District, 1819 E Milham Rd, Kalamazoo, MI.  11/1985 – 7/1988.  Maintained System 370 run on an IBM 4381 under DOS/VSE/SP.

Computer Operator/Programmer, Health Circle, 3624 S Westnedge Rd, Kalamazoo, MI.  5/1985 – 8/1985.  Internship.  Gained experience in all phases of computer operations on an HP 3000.
